Skip-the-Line Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel & St Peter's Basilica on this half-day, private tour.
The Vatican palaces and St. Peter's Basilica were a true "factory" of Renaissance art: here worked the two most notable artists of the period, Raphael and Michelangelo. In adjoining rooms, sweet natured Raphael and his many assistants frescoed the private apartments of Pope Julius II from 1508 to 1520, while the gloomy and laconic Michelangelo labored almost alone on the Sistine Chapel ceiling from 1508-1512 (he returned in 1536 to paint the monumental "Last Judgment" on the chapel's altar wall).
These treasures and much more will be revealed by your expert private guide in this half-day tour of the Vatican Museums, the most extensive collection of art in the entire world. Corners of the Vatican such as the Pio-Clementino courtyard with the famous antique marble statues of the "Laocoon" and "Apollo Belvedere," as well as the galleries of the Candelabra, Tapestries, and Maps will be passed through en route to the Sistine Chapel.
The tour concludes in St. Peter's Basilica with its imposing dome and the sculpted marble masterpiece of the "Pieta'," both designed by Michelangelo. Gian Lorenzo Bernini"s impressive Baroque baldachino above the high altar, where only the Pope is allowed to say Mass, is lavishly covered in gold and bronze. You will also see the most recent papal tomb inside the Basilica where the Blessed Pope John Paul II was laid to rest in 2011.

We just returned from our trip and wanted to let you know that the Vatical Tour was one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide, Serena, was amazing. She was personable, friendly, very knowledgeable, and flexible. She really let us control the pace of the tour. We never felt rushed in any way. We could not have had a better experience. We wanted to let you know and ask you to please pass this along to your management. We will be recommending Select Italy to all of our friends who will be travelling in the future.
I had visited the Vatican museum and St. Peter's many years ago. This year, taking my 2 teenage daughters, we opted for a private tour from Select Italy to maximize our experience. We got so much more from the tour and I highly recommend this experience. Our guide, Sabrina, was a wealth of information and helped to navigate us easily through an overwhelmingly crowded museum. We were able to not only see many of the key pieces and rooms, but were given valuable information, detail and background bringing the art and times to life for us. This was so much more fulfilling than trying to tackle this amazing place on your own. If you can, this is a splurge that will save you time, headaches and be rewarding in content. Thank you, Sabrina and Select Italy.
I loved our tour guide she was friendly, knowledgeable, and did not rush through anything. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wanted to see the Vatican highlights. I will definitely book a tour through Select Italy next time.
I felt a bit queasy about the price of this Join a Small Group Tour, however as soon as we saw the mayhem outside the entrance to the Vatican museum, it seemed to have paid for itself. My husband and I travelled with my 89 yr old mother. This tour was provided by Maria Teresa who was lovely and very informative. Many thanks to her. There was only one other couple with us so an almost private tour. Due to my mother's age, Maria Teresa spoke with the guards and arranged for us to take a shorter route to the Sistine Chapel - very thoughtful of her. The tour was fascinating. Our first full day in Rome and already a highlight of the trip. Thank you very much to Maria Teresa who was so generous with her time.
Our family, 2 parents, 2 teens and 2 grandparents, thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the Vatican and St. Peters Basilica. Giovanna, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and made the tour really come alive! She had a wonderful personality and we were sad to leave her company at the end of the day. I can't imagine using the headsets to tour the Vatican, like so many other tourists. Giovanna was able to answer our questions and point out things that were relevant to our interests. We would recommend this tour, especially with Giovanna, to anyone going to Rome!
