About Trenitalia

Frecciarossa & Frecciargento High Speed Trains: the Italian Metro

Traveling up to a speed of 300 km/h, Frecciarossa trains connect Turin (Torino), Milan (Milano), Reggio Emilia, Bologna, Florence (Firenze), Rome (Roma), Naples (Napoli) and Salerno. They also run from Milan and Bologna to Rimini, Pesaro and Ancona on the Adriatic coast.

With 4 levels of service offering everything from news and entertainment, reclining seats, Wi-Fi, a modern interior design, exclusive technology and services, traveling for business or leisure is a relaxing experience.

  • Executive - for a unique travel experience, our Executive service features eight single, wide armchairs and exclusive services, such as special meals prepared by famous Italian chefs and a meeting room.

Frecciargento trains operate at a speed of 250km/h and connect Rome with the Northeastern portion of Italy (Venice, Udine, Trieste, Verona, Bolzano, Brescia), and the Southern portion of Italy (Lecce, Bari, Lamezia Terme and Reggio Calabria).

Some Venice Roma Frecciargento trains are extended include service to Fiumicino International Airport (Rome) linking it directly by high-speed service with Florence, Bologna, Padova and Venice.

The train interiors have been designed to offer maximum comfort to passengers through climate control and noise cancellation. Both Frecciarossa and Frecciargento trains have 4 classes of service and access to a bar/bistro coach that offers tasty sandwiches and fresh Italian food. A free welcome service is provided for first class passengers.

Frecciabianca Trains: No destination is Out of Reach

Frecciabianca trains travel up to 200 km/h along the East-West axis of Italy connecting Turin and Milan to the Northeast region of Italy (Verona, Venice, Udine and Trieste), along the Adriatic Coast connecting Turin, Milan and Venice with Ancona, Pescara, Bari, Lecce and Taranto, as well as along the Tyrrhenian coast connecting Rome with Genoa, Milan and Turin. Since December 2012, Frecciabianca also connects Rome to Reggio Calabria via Naples and Salerno, as well as Rome to Ravenna. Comfort is granted in both first and second class by air conditioned carriages, comfortable seats, spaces for cumbersome luggage, power outlets, on board catering in the modern Bar area and a special free Welcome Drink service at your seat on Turin-Venice line.

Intercity Trains

Trenitalia Intercity trains connect more than 200 cities from the North to the South of Italy with frequent stops, so they give you the possibility to get from big cities to smaller destinations. All the wagons have air conditioning, and some have been recently redesigned.

Local Trains

Trenitalia Regionale trains travel short distances to nearby cities, making frequent stops to give you the opportunity to discover even the smallest villages of Italy. In order to travel on these trains, you will be provided with a PNR booking code when purchasing the ticket from your travel agency. Once you arrive at the train station, you will need to print out your ticket. To do so, you need to use one of the Trenitalia self-service machines to insert the PNR booking code in order to print out the ticket. Regionale trains don't require seat reservation, but it is necessary to validate the ticket at departure, using the validation box that you can find near the platforms.

Europe is also easily accessible with Trenitalia. A direct connection is available to France from Italy through Thello trains.

The Thello Night train offers daily departures from Venice (with the stops in Padua, Vicenza, Verona, Brescia, Milan and Dijon) will bring you to the city center of Paris. You can choose from 4 or 6-berths couchette compartments or 3-berth, 2-berth, and single sleeper cabins for more privacy.

The Thello Day train directly connects Milan/Genoa and smaller stations in that area with Nice and Marseille in Cote Azur so you can enjoy your trip from Italy to France while admiring the landscape from the window.
